Maghreb Solidarity Convoy Departs from Tunisia to Gaza to Break Israeli Siege

Hundreds of activists join land convoy from Tunisia through Libya and Egypt to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and protest the ongoing blockade and war.

Watan-On Monday morning, the Maghreb Solidarity Convoy set off from the Tunisian capital heading to Gaza, in an effort to break the Israeli blockade on the Strip and in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The initiative involves hundreds of activists.

Activists began gathering at Mohamed V Street in downtown Tunis at 4:00 a.m. (03:00 GMT) to complete registration procedures and arrange logistics.

The convoy officially departed Tunisian territory at 8:30 a.m. (07:30 GMT), accompanied by hundreds of citizens waving both Palestinian and Tunisian flags in a show of support.

On Saturday, the Coordination for Joint Action for Palestine in Tunisia announced that a Maghreb land convoy, consisting of thousands of volunteers, would head to Gaza on Monday to demand an end to Israel’s war of extermination, the lifting of the siege, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The coordination group added in a statement: “The Maghreb Solidarity Convoy to break the siege on Gaza will depart Monday from the capital Tunis, as well as from the cities of Sousse (east), Sfax, and Gabes, toward Ben Guerdane (south), and onward to Gaza via Libya and Egypt. The aim is to express solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people and to deliver humanitarian assistance to the Strip.”
