Arab Summit Endorses Egypt’s $53 Billion Plan for Gaza’s Future

The Arab Summit backs Egypt’s $53 billion Gaza plan, rejecting U.S. proposals and urging global support for reconstruction and stability.

Watan-The draft of the final statement for the Arab Summit, set to be held today (Tuesday), has adopted Egypt’s plan for Gaza’s future and called on the international community and financial institutions to provide swift support for its implementation.

The Arab plan for Gaza’s future comes in direct opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions for the territory.

Trump angered the Arab world when he unexpectedly announced that the United States would take control of Gaza, relocate its residents elsewhere, and develop it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

Documents detailing the plan indicate that its cost will reach $53 billion. The 112-page document includes maps outlining how Gaza’s land will be redeveloped.

The plan also includes a commercial port, a technology hub, and beachfront hotels.

Earlier today, Cairo News Channel published details of Egypt’s reconstruction plan for Gaza, which will be discussed at the emergency Arab Summit.

According to the channel, the plan is set to be implemented over three years and includes a parallel process for recovery and reconstruction.

The plan proposes forming a temporary Palestinian committee under the Palestinian Authority’s umbrella for six months to manage Gaza and oversee reconstruction efforts. Egypt and Jordan would train Palestinian police forces in preparation for their deployment in Gaza.

The plan also includes creating a buffer zone after debris clearance and constructing 20 temporary housing zones with the participation of Egyptian and international companies.

Gaza Plan Links Reconstruction to Two-State Solution and Ceasefire Stabilization

Additionally, the plan calls for progress toward a two-state solution as part of the broader political resolution.

The document condemns the killing and targeting of civilians, the unprecedented level of violence, and the humanitarian suffering caused by the war on Gaza.

It urges the international community, first and foremost on humanitarian grounds, to address the catastrophe left by the war and to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people to remain on their land without forced displacement.

The reconstruction process, according to the plan, requires transitional governance arrangements and security provisions that preserve the prospects for a two-state solution, emphasizing the need to maintain a ceasefire in Gaza.

The plan calls on the international community to support Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S. in stabilizing a ceasefire agreement. It also warns of the consequences of its collapse, which could hinder humanitarian efforts and reconstruction.

It stresses the importance of a gradual approach that ensures the Palestinian people’s right to remain on their land and achieve their legitimate aspirations for a sovereign state with territorial continuity between Gaza and the West Bank.

The document also calls for a political and legal approach to Gaza that aligns with international legitimacy and UN Security Council resolutions. Additionally, it underscores the need for continued efforts by the Palestinian Authority to advance institutional and governance reforms.

The plan discusses a proposal for the UN Security Council to consider an international presence in the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and Gaza, and the issuance of a resolution to deploy international peacekeeping forces as part of a comprehensive framework for establishing a Palestinian state.
