U.S. Court Overturns Trump’s 10% Tariffs on Imports
Trade court rules that only Congress has the authority to impose sweeping tariffs on global imports.
Watan-A U.S. court specializing in international trade issues ruled on Wednesday to overturn the “reciprocal” tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump, which added a 10% duty on all imported goods. The court determined that only Congress holds the constitutional authority to impose such tariffs.
In its ruling, the U.S. Court of International Trade stated that the president cannot invoke the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to “impose unlimited additional duties on imported products from nearly all countries.”
