Arab Nations Unite to Reject Palestinian Relocation Proposals

Joint Statement from Cairo Meeting Emphasizes Support for Palestinian Rights and Opposition to Forced Displacement.

Watan-A joint Arab statement on Saturday affirmed “continued full support for the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land and their adherence to their legitimate rights in accordance with international law.”

This declaration followed a meeting in Cairo involving the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

The statement from Cairo emphasized “rejection of any infringement upon these inalienable rights, whether through settlement activities, evictions and house demolitions, land annexation, or by displacing the land’s owners through forced migration or encouraging the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians from their land in any form or under any circumstances and justifications.”

The joint statement added that the participants agreed to “emphasize the important and appreciated role of the United States in achieving this agreement, and look forward to working with President Trump‘s administration to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East in accordance with the two-state solution, and to work towards clearing the region of conflicts.”

Regarding the Gaza agreement, the statement stressed “the importance of sustaining the ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian support throughout the Gaza Strip, and removing all obstacles to the entry of all humanitarian aid.”

The participants also affirmed the necessity of “the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the absolute rejection of any attempts to partition the Gaza Strip.”

They emphasized the “indispensable and irreplaceable pivotal role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA),” rejecting any attempts to bypass or diminish its role.

The participants welcomed Egypt’s intention, in cooperation with the United Nations, to host an international conference for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

In this context, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced on Saturday his country’s “categorical” rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip, noting that such calls could renew confrontations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

This was stated in a speech delivered by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman during the six-party Arab meeting on the situation in Palestine, according to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated during the meeting “the State of Qatar’s categorical rejection of attempts to displace the brotherly Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip.”

Last week, President Trump suggested that Jordan and Egypt should receive more Palestinians from Gaza, a proposal rejected by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which administers the Strip, as well as by Jordan and Egypt.

On Thursday, Trump reiterated the idea, saying, “We do a lot for them, and they will do it,” apparently referring to significant U.S. aid, including military assistance, to Egypt and Jordan.
