Greta Thunberg Joins Gaza-Bound Humanitarian Ship to Protest Israeli War and Blockade
The Swedish climate activist sails with the “Freedom Flotilla” alongside European politicians to condemn the siege on Gaza and raise global awareness about the ongoing war.
Watan-Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is set to sail to Gaza on Sunday aboard a humanitarian vessel, joining other activists in protest against Israel’s ongoing war on the besieged strip, according to French-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan.
The voyage is organized by the “Freedom Flotilla,” a coalition of groups opposing Israel’s blockade on Gaza, imposed on March 2 and only partially eased in recent weeks.
According to Rima Hassan, who will also be on board, the mission has multiple objectives:“To denounce the humanitarian blockade, the ongoing genocide, Israel’s impunity, and to raise international awareness.”
Hassan, a prominent figure in France’s left-wing party La France Insoumise, has previously stirred controversy with her outspoken views on the Middle East. She was scheduled to visit the occupied Palestinian territories in February with a delegation from the European Parliament but said she was denied entry into Israel.

Thunberg, who gained global recognition for mobilizing climate protests by youth in Sweden, had initially planned to sail to Gaza earlier this month. However, the original vessel was reportedly sabotaged during its journey.
Activists suspect an Israeli drone strike was behind the incident.
In a post on social media, Hassan stated:“To ensure our safety—and the success of our mission—we need maximum public support and mobilization for this initiative.”
The White House announced Thursday that Israel accepted a U.S. ceasefire proposal recently shared with Hamas. However, Hamas responded that the proposal “fails to meet any of the Palestinian people’s demands.”
