Watan-Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced today, Thursday, his commitment to uncovering the full truth behind the Beirut port explosion and holding those responsible accountable.
During his reception of a delegation of the victims’ families at Baabda Presidential Palace, Aoun said, “My commitment is clear: to reveal the full truth without exception and to hold accountable everyone who caused this disaster. This is the path to rescuing our country from the darkness of corruption and neglect. We will spare no effort to build a state that respects the rights of its citizens and protects their lives, so that this tragedy becomes a lesson for a better future.”
He expressed his full solidarity with “the families of the martyrs” and conveyed his deep sorrow and condolences for the loss of their loved ones in this tragedy that struck the country, stressing that “the responsibility rests on all of us to achieve justice.”
He added, “From now on, the judiciary will take its course, the guilty will be prosecuted, and the innocent will be acquitted.”
The Beirut port explosion occurred on August 4, 2020, causing damage to several streets in the capital, killing over 200 people, and injuring more than six thousand. The cause and responsible parties of the explosion remain unknown to this day.
