Watan-In a move reflecting the dire medical crisis facing Gaza’s hospitals—caused by Israel’s stringent blockade that prevents the entry of medicine and fuel—Shifa Hospital announced it has stopped providing dialysis services and warned of a total shutdown of medical care, putting patients at mortal risk.
The Gaza Ministry of Health declared that the Shifa Medical Complex has ceased dialysis treatments due to fuel exhaustion, and noted that the complex has decided to restrict its operations to intensive care for only a few hours each day.
The ministry warned that continued fuel shortages would mean certain death for all patients and wounded in hospitals, describing the situation as a “choking, ongoing crisis” caused by Israel’s “discriminatory” fuel supply policy to medical facilities.
It is worth noting that the Shifa Medical Complex, located west of Gaza City, was one of the largest hospitals serving the enclave’s patients and housed numerous medical departments.
However, the Israeli army—which has raided the hospital multiple times, perpetrated massacres, and buried patients and the wounded in mass graves on its grounds—deliberately destroyed large parts of the facility and bombed its power generators, rendering the hospital nonfunctional for months.
After strenuous efforts, the hospital resumed limited operations, reopening some departments, including dialysis—but the service has now halted once again.
The Ministry of Health renewed its appeal to all international organizations and concerned parties to intervene and protect Gaza’s healthcare system from collapse by ensuring the delivery of medical supplies.
Two days ago, the World Health Organization stated that the recent medical shipment entering Gaza—after months of interruption—“will provide only minimal relief to the enclave’s population, who continue to be killed while searching for food.”
