Watan-In what is seen as a revival of their war of words, American businessman Elon Musk announced his intention to found a new political party “that truly serves the people” if President Donald Trump’s tax-cut bill is passed.
In a post on X late Monday, Musk criticized the proposed tax cuts, noting their high cost would lead to an “unreasonable” increase in federal spending.
He added that the United States is effectively dominated by “one party,” and that “it’s time to establish a new political party that actually cares about the people.”
Musk warned that if the bill is approved, he will announce the formation of a new party the very next day, to be called the “American Party.”
On Tuesday, President Trump suggested that his Administration’s Office of Management and Budget should consider reducing the subsidies received by Musk’s companies to save federal funds.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Elon perhaps gets more support than any man in history—by far—and without it he might have had to shut down his operations and return to South Africa.” He added, “No more rockets, satellites, or electric vehicles, and our country would save a fortune. Maybe the OMB should take a serious, close look at this? It’s a lot of money that could be saved!!!”
Earlier, Trump had expressed deep disappointment over Musk’s sharp criticism of the tax-cut bill, which is currently before Congress, just weeks after Musk left his White House advisory role.
Trump previously said, “My relationship with Elon was very good, but now I don’t know if it still is. I was very disappointed in him, even though I supported him a lot. He hasn’t said bad things about me yet, but I’m sure he will soon.”
Musk shot back, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election. The Democrats would have controlled the House, and the Republicans would have had only a 51–49 Senate majority,” he claimed.
Their spat had appeared to cool—but it has now flared up again.
