Watan-An Israeli newspaper reported that a White House official said the Trump administration will urge Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer during his upcoming visit to end the war on Gaza and postpone dismantling Hamas.
According to Haaretz, Dermer is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Monday and meet with senior Trump administration officials.
Quoting an unnamed White House official, the report stated that the U.S. will tell Dermer that Israel must “end the war in Gaza, secure the release of living hostages, and delay the mission of dismantling Hamas.”
The paper added that Trump’s team will also discuss U.S. talks with Iran on its nuclear program and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords to include more normalization deals with Israel.
However, the main focus will be on realizing Donald Trump’s vision of ending the war in Gaza, according to Haaretz.
The White House reportedly showed interest this week in arranging a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington, but the timing depends on the outcome of Dermer’s talks on ending the war.
On Friday, President Trump expressed confidence that a Gaza ceasefire could be reached within the coming week.
Israeli officials, however, responded with surprise, telling Yedioth Ahronoth on Saturday that Netanyahu has shown no indication of shifting his hardline stance.
Hamas, for its part, has reiterated its readiness to release all Israeli hostages at once if Israel agrees to a full ceasefire, military withdrawal from Gaza, and release of Palestinian prisoners.
Netanyahu, wanted by the International Criminal Court, continues to insist on partial deals, introducing new demands such as the disarmament of Palestinian factions, and now pushes for the reoccupation of Gaza — moves widely seen as politically motivated to ensure his survival in power, according to the Israeli opposition.
Israeli sources estimate there are about 50 hostages in Gaza, 20 of them alive. Meanwhile, over 10,400 Palestinians are imprisoned in Israel, facing torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many deaths reported by Palestinian and Israeli rights organizations.
