Mauritania Rallies for Gaza: Mass Protests, Aid Campaigns, and Unified Solidarity With Palestine and Iran
Nationwide Mobilization in Nouakchott Condemns Israeli Strikes and U.S. Backing, While Grassroots and Official Support for Gaza Intensifies.

Watan-Nearly two years into Israel’s war of annihilation on Gaza, the people of Mauritania continue to demonstrate unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the Al-Aqsa Flood resistance, with grassroots and elite initiatives showing no signs of decline.
On Sunday evening, the National Alliance for the Support of the Palestinian People organized a mass rally in Nouakchott under the slogan: “Yes to Breaking the Siege.”
Participants reaffirmed their popular support for the resistance in Gaza, condemning the recent “criminal aggression” against Iran, which they described as exposing the fascist nature of the Zionist entity—emboldened by direct American and Western backing.
Unified Support for Palestine and Iran
In a statement, the Alliance expressed solidarity with the Iranian people in the face of the “brutal aggression carried out by the occupying entity,” and called on Arab and Muslim nations and global activists to escalate mass mobilization against Israeli expansionism. It emphasized the importance of continued Mauritanian support for the Al-Aqsa Flood resistance.
Saleh Hanenna, leader of the Mauritanian Party for Change, delivered a passionate speech:“We are here not to celebrate but to declare that Gaza is not alone, and Palestine remains our central cause as long as we breathe.”
He condemned international silence and complicity, stating that no power will deter Mauritanians from their moral stance against the siege and ongoing aggression.
Scholarly, Political, and Popular Voices Unite
Sheikh Mahfouz Ibrahim Fall, Vice President of the Center for Scholar Training, addressed participants:“Your support today is worship, testimony, and resistance. The assault on Iran and Gaza is part of the same war. The project is one. The enemy is one. Silence is betrayal.”
Parliamentarian Zhoura bint Bedia affirmed:“The Palestinian cause is not a political burden; it’s a historic and moral duty. Today, **Mauritanian women reaffirm that the siege must be broken—physically and symbolically.”
She condemned the Israeli strike on Iran as a “barbaric crime,” reaffirming:“Palestine is our compass toward liberation.”
Student Protests and Anti-Normalization
The Student Initiative held a protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, denouncing the Israeli attack on Iran and reiterating firm rejection of normalization with the occupation.
In a statement, the group described the strike as part of a broader Zionist project targeting the Muslim world, adding:“This adds to the occupation’s record of terrorism and aggression.”

Empowering Women and Youth for Palestine
The Student Initiative Against Zionist Penetration hosted a seminar titled “Students and the Role of Women in Supporting Al-Quds and Palestine,” with participation from prominent figures including freed Palestinian prisoner Samar Sabih and Dr. Taghreed Sayedawi.
Speakers emphasized the pivotal role of young Muslim women in liberation struggles and urged Mauritanian youth to remain active in all forms of solidarity.
Enduring National Commitment
These mobilizations affirm that the Mauritanian people—across all sectors—remain firmly committed to the Palestinian cause, and will continue to support Gaza’s resilience in the face of Israeli aggression and global silence.
Mauritania, both officially and popularly, continues to show that Jerusalem and Palestine remain at the heart of its national identity, and that support for Gaza is not seasonal but a lasting covenant—until freedom and justice are achieved.
