Flamethrower Attack Targets Pro-Israel Rally in Colorado; Six Injured

Authorities label the incident an act of terrorism after a man shouting “Free Palestine” launches a homemade flamethrower at elderly demonstrators in Boulder.

Watan-Six people were injured on Sunday in an attack involving a homemade flamethrower during a pro-Israel gathering in Boulder, Colorado. Federal and local authorities are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.

According to FBI Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek, the suspect — identified as 45-year-old Mohammad Suleiman — used an improvised flamethrower and incendiary materials. Witnesses reported hearing him shout “Free Palestine” during the attack.

Boulder police said the victims, aged between 67 and 88, included two individuals who were airlifted to a burn unit for treatment. The remaining victims are in stable condition. The suspect was arrested at the scene without resistance and was later hospitalized with minor injuries.

The incident occurred around 1:26 p.m. local time near Pearl Street in a pedestrian-only zone, where a routine weekly event was taking place. Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn confirmed the attacker acted alone.

FBI Director Kash Patel immediately described the attack as a “targeted act of terrorism,” affirming that a comprehensive investigation is underway in coordination with local law enforcement.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also stated that the National Counterterrorism Center is involved in the case, calling it “a clear targeting of members of the Jewish community.”

Colorado Governor Jared Polis strongly condemned the attack, stating: “I am closely monitoring the situation in Boulder and extend my condolences to all those affected by this horrific act of terrorism. Any act driven by hatred is unacceptable.”

State Attorney General Phil Weiser classified the attack as a hate crime due to the targeted group.
