Vadvol added that he would be speaking with his Israeli counterpart later today, describing the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “unbearable”—a phrase reflecting increasing discomfort within German political circles regarding Israel’s actions in the besieged territory.

Vadvol’s statement comes amid intensifying debate in Berlin about how to respond to Israel’s military campaign, especially following unprecedented remarks by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who criticized recent Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
Merz told Germany’s WDR network:“The level of harm inflicted on civilians in recent days is increasingly unjustifiable, even under the pretext of fighting Hamas terrorism.”
