Watan-On Friday, the leaders of seven European countries urged Israel to enter into negotiations in good faith to end the war of extermination it has been waging in the Gaza Strip for nearly twenty months. They also called for the lifting of the siege imposed on the territory.
This was stated in a joint declaration issued by the leaders of Spain, Norway, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, and Slovenia, in which they expressed their complete rejection of any plans aimed at forcibly displacing the residents of Gaza or implementing demographic changes in the area.
The statement affirmed that European leaders “will not stand idly by in the face of a man-made humanitarian disaster unfolding before the world’s eyes in Gaza.” It noted that “more than 50,000 men, women, and children have died in the territory” and warned that “thousands more are at risk of starving to death in the coming days and weeks if urgent action is not taken.”
European Leaders Demand Immediate Policy Shift, Full Gaza Access, and Inclusive Ceasefire Talks
In this context, the European leaders called on the Israeli government to immediately reverse its current policies and refrain from launching any further military operations in Gaza.
They also demanded a “complete lifting of the siege imposed on Gaza” to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered quickly, safely, and without obstruction to all areas of the Strip through international humanitarian organizations, in accordance with recognized humanitarian principles.
The statement also emphasized the importance of supporting the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and ensuring their safe and unimpeded access to those in need within Gaza.
In conclusion, the European leaders urged all parties to immediately and sincerely engage in negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire and the release of all hostages, while also emphasizing the critical role being played by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar in this process.
