Sudan Cuts Diplomatic Ties with UAE, Declares It a Hostile State Over Support for Rebel Forces

Sudanese Security Council Accuses UAE of Backing RSF Militias and Targeting Vital Infrastructure, Citing Right to Self-Defense Under UN Charter.

Watan-According to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), Sudan’s Security and Defense Council announced on Tuesday the severance of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the recall of its embassy staff from Abu Dhabi.

The Council declared the UAE a “hostile state” and decided to shut down Sudan’s embassy and consulate there, accusing the Gulf nation of supporting the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and targeting critical infrastructure within Sudan.

The Council affirmed Sudan’s right to respond to what it termed as aggression, citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, which permits self-defense to preserve sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also reassured the Sudanese public of the state’s capability to protect the country and its citizens.

Sudan Cuts Ties with UAE, Cites Aggression and Right to Self-Defense Under UN Charter

Below is the official statement of the Security and Defense Council, as published by SUNA:

  1. For over two years, the world has witnessed an act of aggression against Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and the safety of its citizens by the UAE, which has acted through its local proxy—the terrorist and rebellious RSF militia and its political backers.

  2. When the UAE realized that its local proxy was being decisively defeated by Sudan’s Armed Forces—the legitimate institution charged with defending the nation—it escalated its support and provided the RSF with advanced strategic weaponry.

  3. These weapons have been used to target key infrastructure and service facilities across the country, most recently oil and gas depots, Port Sudan’s airport and seaport, power stations, hotels, and other civilian sites. These attacks have endangered millions of lives and pose a serious threat to regional and international security, especially in the Red Sea corridor.

  4. In response to this continued aggression, the Security and Defense Council has decided the following:

    – Officially declare the United Arab Emirates a hostile state.
    – Cut diplomatic relations with the UAE.
    – Withdraw Sudan’s embassy and consulate staff from the country.

  5. In accordance with both the letter and spirit of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which grants nations the right to self-defense, Sudan retains the right to respond to aggression through all means necessary to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, protect civilians, and ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid.

  6. The Council praises the sacrifices of the Sudanese people, Armed Forces, police, security forces, joint operations units, and popular resistance. It reassures the nation that the state is fully capable of repelling aggression and maintaining internal security.

  7. May Sudan remain honored, proud, stable, and victorious.
