Watan-A high-level Israeli delegation is set to visit the White House early next week for strategic consultations on Iran, according to Israeli and American officials. This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump gave Tehran a two-month deadline to negotiate a new nuclear deal and threatened military strikes on Iran’s nuclear program if no agreement is reached.
One Israeli official stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his team believe the chances of a new agreement are slim and want to coordinate a joint course of action in case the situation escalates to the point of military intervention. This will be the first meeting of the U.S.-Israel Strategic Consultative Group (SCG) since Trump took office.
Israel, U.S. to Discuss Iran Nuclear Threat
The Israeli delegation is expected to be led by Netanyahu’s advisers—Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi—according to Israeli officials. The delegation will also include representatives from the National Security Council, the military, Mossad, the Foreign Ministry, the Defense Ministry, and the Atomic Energy Commission.
They are expected to meet with a U.S. team headed by Trump’s National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, along with representatives from the State Department, the Pentagon, and U.S. intelligence agencies. A senior American official said the discussions will focus primarily on Iran’s nuclear issue and the potential for U.S.-Iran negotiations. The war in Gaza and Israel-Lebanon border negotiations are also expected to be discussed.
The same source revealed that Trump had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, giving a two-month window to reach a new nuclear deal. The letter was delivered by Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, during a meeting with the President of the UAE in Abu Dhabi.
It remains unclear whether the countdown begins from the moment the letter was delivered or from the start of negotiations. However, the report suggested that if Iran rejects Trump’s offer and refuses to enter talks, the likelihood of U.S. or Israeli military action against Iranian nuclear facilities will increase significantly.
