Watan–Several areas in the Gaza Strip witnessed massive public celebrations following confirmation of the signing of a ceasefire agreement between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel, bringing an end to the ongoing Israeli war on the strip that lasted more than 15 months.
A joyful atmosphere dominated the streets of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in the southern part of the strip as news spread of an imminent ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange deal.
The celebrators chanted, “We are the sons of Mohammed Deif,” referring to the General Commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.
A short while ago, Israel’s public broadcaster confirmed that an official agreement had been reached for a ceasefire deal between the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and Israel, opening the door to the potential end of the continuous Israeli aggression over the past 15 months, which has resulted in thousands of casualties and injuries in Gaza.
In the same context, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced the agreement and the imminent release of detainees.
Sources informed Al Jazeera that the ceasefire in Gaza is expected to begin within two to three days, adding that a humanitarian relief protocol will accompany the implementation of the first phase, including the entry of 600 aid trucks daily.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in around 157,000 Palestinian casualties and injuries, most of whom are children and women, with over 11,000 missing. This has taken place amid massive destruction and famine, which has claimed the lives of dozens of children and elderly people in what is considered one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
