Luxury Chair Controversy at Restatex Riyadh: A Quarter Million Riyals for a Seat?

The “Restatex Riyadh Real Estate Exhibition,” currently held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center, is the largest real estate event in the Kingdom, highlighting the role of the real estate sector in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and conveying developments in residential and commercial projects.

Saudis shared a video clip of the controversial chair, which appeared in an oily color and had a unique design, featuring a wide seat with flowing armrests.The video publisher commented: “This chair is displayed in the corner pavilion, with a sign saying ‘prohibited to sit’ and the price is 250,000 riyals.”

He added, “They don’t just sell furniture, but they pamper you and serve drinks.”

The price of the chair sparked wide debate among social media users, with some considering it overly expensive, while others deemed it an investment in a unique piece of art.

In this context, “Bahar” sarcastically remarked: “If they don’t have a silver color, gold won’t match our coffee pot’s color.”

Another commented sarcastically, “You sit on the chair, close your eyes, and wake up in the country you desire… a chair and a plane at the same time.”

A third wondered, “Does sitting on it mean sitting on a throne like that of a king, or what?”

To which a tweeter named “Abu Al-Aziz” replied, “You sit on the throne of Satan, because the extravagant are the brothers of the devils.”

One activist commented disapprovingly, “Whoever has a lot of money and is confused about how to spend it buys this chair… I bet billionaires don’t buy this chair.”

He added, “Those who buy it have an inferiority complex and want to show people that they are wealthy.”
