Misleading McDonald’s Demolition Video Sparks Controversy Amidst Anti-Israel Boycott

Watan-Video footage has been circulating on social media pages, claiming the demolition of a branch of the McDonald’s restaurant chain due to the recent boycott campaign against companies supporting Israel.

Some activists allege that these clips depict the demolition of a McDonald’s branch in Pakistan.

Activists linked this scene to the boycott campaigns against goods and companies associated with the Israeli occupation in many Arab and Islamic countries, expressing support for Gaza and condemning Israeli aggression.

The reality of demolishing a McDonald’s branch

However, this footage is a misleading claim, as it turns out to be an old video and not related to the demolition of a McDonald’s branch due to the recent boycott campaign.

This video was originally published in 2018 and shows the removal of a McDonald’s billboard in Kansas in 2018.

The specialized demolition and removal company, Simpson Dirt Construction, based in Kansas, USA, had posted the video on its social media accounts in July 2018, documenting the demolition and removal of a McDonald’s billboard at that time.

It should be noted that the campaign to boycott Israeli products or companies supporting the occupation, including McDonald’s restaurants, has been ongoing since October 7th last year, following the Israeli army’s war on the Gaza Strip.

Many calls have been made by activists and human rights organizations in Arab and Islamic countries not to purchase goods and services from Israeli companies or companies supporting the occupation.
