A martyr every 10 minutes
In a harrowing account of the situation in Gaza, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, addressed the United Nations Security Council, stating that a child becomes a martyr in the Mediterranean every 10 minutes in the Gaza Strip.
He warned that there is no safe place and no one is secure in Gaza. He mentioned that half of Gaza‘s 36 hospitals and two-thirds of primary healthcare centers are not operational. The ones that are still functioning are overwhelmed far beyond their capacity, describing the healthcare system as on the brink of collapse.
Since October 7th, Israel has launched over 250 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel has justified its aggression by claiming that Hamas hides weapons in tunnels beneath hospitals.
