Kuwaiti Comedy Icon Ahmed Al-Awnan Granted Emirati Citizenship

Watan – Kuwait’s esteemed Al-Qabas newspaper recently revealed that the illustrious Kuwaiti artist, Ahmed Al-Awnan, known as the “Dean of Gulf Comedy,” now holds Emirati citizenship. Al-Awnan’s journey through the arts in various Gulf nations has established him as a key figure in regional entertainment.

Expressing his emotions about his new Emirati identity, Al-Awnan said, “I’m moving from one beloved home to another. I owe my deepest gratitude to the Sheikhs.” This significant recognition received widespread praise from the Arab entertainment community. Emirati actor Habib Ghuloom was among the first to share the news, while Kuwaiti performer Ya’qoub Abdullah said, “Abu Fawaz truly deserves this honor.” Actress Mais Kamar added, “Congratulations to my esteemed colleague, Ahmed Al-Awnan. This gesture showcases the region’s dedication to its creative talents.”

Born in Kuwait on January 29, 1970, Al-Awnan began his artistic career in 1991. He has a rich portfolio of Kuwaiti and Gulf productions, including theater, cinema, drama, and television hosting, such as “Azima Al-Awnan” on Al-Rai TV. His comedic talent and ability to connect with a diverse audience have made him a legend. Some of his notable works include “Al-Bayt Bayt Abuna,” “Al-Nas Ma’a,” “Al-Nas Ajnas,” and “Saduwa.”

While comedy is his mainstay, Al-Awnan has also explored drama with series like “Al-Sir,” “Al-Tariq ila Al-Hawiya,” “Jurh Al-Zaman,” “Al-Ikhtiyar,” and “Al-Koun fi Kaffa.” His comedic brilliance has won him awards such as Best Comedic Actor at the 2004 Gulf Theater Festival, the 2002 Gulf Radio and Television Festival, and the 2003 Kuwaiti Theater Festival. Fans and critics alike praise Al-Awnan for his comedic instincts and his captivating stage and screen presence.
