The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated: “In a phone poll, government ministers approved the Al Jazeera Law, which prohibits foreign broadcasting that harms Israel’s security.”<\/p>\n
It added: “The request, which was sent to ministers yesterday, came after the Israeli army spokesman revealed that forces in Gaza found a personal computer belonging to a journalist at Al Jazeera, who is also a Hamas activist.”<\/p>\n
The Broadcasting Authority did not provide further details on the circumstances of the approval of this law.<\/p>\n
Al Jazeera has an office in Israel, with a team of reporters working year-round, including coverage of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza since October 7th last year.<\/p>\n
The Israeli government had previously approved regulations in October last year that enable the closure of foreign broadcasting stations that harm the security of the Zionist entity.<\/p>\n
According to the Hebrew newspaper “Hidabroot,” ministers decided in a phone poll last night “Sunday” to pass a bill to close Al Jazeera in Israel, and the proposal was referred today (Monday) to the Ministerial Committee on Legislation.<\/p>\n
The ministers’ decision came following information provided by the occupation army claiming that one of the channel’s correspondents also works as a senior Hamas activist.<\/p>\n
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee claimed that during an operation by the Israeli army a few weeks ago at one of Hamas bases in northern Gaza, a laptop belonging to “Mohammed Sameer Mohammed Washah” from Gaza was found.<\/p>\n
This laptop is allegedly used for his work as a “journalist,” according to Adraee’s claims, who also alleged that Washah is a senior leader in Hamas working in the anti-tank missile development team within the movement. He transitioned to work in research and development for the “Hamas Air Force” at the end of 2022.<\/p>\n
Israeli government ministers had decided in a phone poll weeks ago to accept a proposal by Communications Minister Shlomo Karai to stop the broadcast of Al Jazeera in Israel. However, this step was frozen, among other things, because the channel is owned by Qatar, which acts as an intermediary between Israel and Hamas.<\/p>\n
