Watan-<\/strong><\/em>The Government Media Office in Gaza on Friday accused the European Union of being complicit in the genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

This came in a statement responding to the outcome of the EU Foreign Ministers\u2019 meeting on Tuesday \u2014 a position later criticized by former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who said Wednesday:\u201cEurope has decided not to punish Israel for ongoing war crimes and is allowing the genocide in Gaza to continue relentlessly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Gaza Media Office expressed shock and deep anger over the EU\u2019s official position, voiced by representatives at the recent meeting in Brussels.<\/p>\n

It said the meeting\u2019s conclusions highlighted the \u201cmoral and political failure\u201d of the EU in the face of the Israeli genocide in Gaza that has now lasted over 650 days.<\/p>\n

The office described Borrell\u2019s remarks as \u201cdamning testimony from within the European establishment itself\u201d on the West\u2019s disgraceful complicity.<\/p>\n

It also condemned the EU\u2019s failure to activate a single accountability mechanism against Israel, despite Tel Aviv\u2019s clear violations of the human rights clause in the EU-Israel Association Agreement.<\/p>\n

The office stated that the EU had \u201ccrossed all red lines\u201d as it watches 2.4 million Palestinian civilians being slaughtered, starved, and forcibly displaced without mercy.<\/p>\n

The office accused the EU of betraying the human values it claims to uphold by merely “monitoring” the situation in Gaza. It added that the lack of any punitive measures gives Israel a \u201cgreen light\u201d to continue its massacres \u2014 with explicit European approval.<\/p>\n

It held the European Union fully politically and morally responsible for the ongoing genocide and urged it to end its “hypocrisy, complicity, and double standards”, calling for:<\/p>\n

    After the meeting, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said the Union would \u201cclosely monitor\u201d Israel\u2019s implementation of agreed-upon steps to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.<\/p>\n

    She mentioned that potential actions against Israel were discussed and could be explored by member states in the future, stating:<\/p>\n

    \u201cThe goal is not to punish Israel, but to genuinely improve the situation in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Following public pressure and a Dutch proposal, the EU launched a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement on May 20, based on the requirement for compliance with human rights and international law.<\/p>\n

    Experts say a full suspension of the agreement is unlikely due to the need for unanimous consent. However, suspending parts related to free trade, scientific cooperation, culture, and political dialogue \u2014 which require only a majority \u2014 remains plausible.<\/p>\n

    Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia support suspending the agreement, while Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Hungary oppose it.<\/p>\n

    Since October 7, 2023, Israel \u2014 with U.S. support \u2014 has waged a genocidal war in Gaza, involving mass killings, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls and binding orders from the International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n

    The genocide has left over 198,000 Palestinians dead or injured \u2014 most of them women and children \u2014 with more than 10,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, famine claiming lives (including many children), and massive destruction across the Strip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
