Watan<\/strong><\/em>-On Monday, the trial began of a 41-year-old Moroccan man accused of killing his wife and her sister in 2023 near Al\u00e8s, southern France. He faces life imprisonment.<\/p>\n

The defendant, identified as Mohamed A., commented on the charges: \u201cFor Fatima (my sister-in-law), yes. But with regard to my wife, it was an accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

A verdict is expected Wednesday for the construction worker, who arrived in France in 2017 and has an outstanding deportation order.<\/p>\n

Mohamed A. and his wife, Halima Z. (26), married in December 2020 and have a 10-month-old daughter. After marital problems, his wife moved out to live near her family.<\/p>\n

On May 5, 2023, Mohamed A. went to Halima\u2019s rented apartment\u2014he said he paid the rent\u2014where he got into a violent argument with his sister-in-law Fatima (39), accusing her of influencing his wife. He stabbed Fatima 14 times, causing a fatal heart wound, according to the autopsy. He then attacked his wife, knifing her three times and inflicting a deep neck wound, per forensic examiners.<\/p>\n

A beautician present at the scene testified that Mohamed asked her to accompany him to the police station, where he confessed to killing both women \u201cin a fit of rage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Psychologist Annabelle Montin reported that Mohamed \u201cinitially said the facts concerning his wife were accidental, then claimed his lawyer told him to say that.\u201d<\/p>\n
