Watan<\/strong><\/em>-The U.S. dollar fell to its lowest level in three and a half years against the euro and British pound on Thursday, amid a broad selloff driven by expectations that the Federal Reserve will soon lower interest rates.<\/p>\n

Eric Theoret, a foreign exchange strategist at Scotiabank in Toronto, commented:\u201cThe focus this week has been on the Fed and the possibility of a sooner\u2014and potentially deeper\u2014series of rate cuts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell emphasized the need for the central bank to remain cautious, warning of potential inflationary pressure this summer.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to appoint a new Fed Chair next year, likely someone more inclined toward easing monetary policy than Powell, whose term ends in May.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Trump publicly criticized Powell, calling him \u201cobnoxious\u201d for not slashing interest rates more aggressively. Powell, in testimony before the Senate, said monetary caution was essential, especially given Trump\u2019s tariff plans, which could fuel inflation.<\/p>\n

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Trump is considering announcing Powell\u2019s replacement by September or October.<\/p>\n

Markets React: Currency and Rate Forecasts Shift<\/h3>\n

Futures traders increased their expectations for Fed rate cuts to 65 basis points by year-end\u2014up from 46 basis points last Friday. The first rate cut is now expected in September.<\/p>\n
