However, starting from Q3 2023, domestic production declined to an average of 4.4 billion cubic feet per day (bcf\/d), while local demand exceeded 6.2 bcf\/d, creating a daily gap of 1.8 bcf, according to Egypt\u2019s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-23\" data-start=\"2667\" data-end=\"2890\">This supply shortfall prompted Cairo to reduce LNG exports, particularly from the Idku plant, which saw a 35% drop in shipment volume in 2023 versus 2022, according to data from ship-tracking platform Kpler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-24\" data-start=\"2892\" data-end=\"3071\">Concurrently, electricity consumption doubled due to extreme summer heatwaves and increased use of air conditioning, pushing both residential and industrial gas demand higher.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"ai-optimize-25\" data-start=\"3078\" data-end=\"3134\">Infrastructure and Floating Regasification Units<\/h3>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-26\" data-start=\"3136\" data-end=\"3524\">To address this growing demand, Egypt has recently deployed the \u201cEnergos Eskimo\u201d floating regasification unit, with a daily capacity of 750 million cubic feet, joining the \u201cEnergos Power\u201d unit, which replaced the \u201cHoegh Gallant\u201d in Ain Sokhna with a similar capacity.
