Watan<\/strong><\/em>-Medical staff in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in western Sudan, have launched an open-ended strike due to the deteriorating work environment, lack of basic medical supplies, and the absence of security for treatment units. This comes as more than 350,000 children in North Darfur suffer from malnutrition, and over 50,000 women face complications from pregnancy and nutritional deficiencies.<\/p>\n

The Sudan Doctors Network confirmed on Wednesday the legitimacy of the demands raised by the striking medical staff in El Fasher, highlighting the need to alert local authorities and regional and international organizations to the collapse of the healthcare sector.<\/p>\n

Total Collapse Under Siege<\/h3>\n

The main reason for the sector\u2019s deterioration, the statement said, is the prolonged siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher<\/a>\u2014one that regional and international organizations have so far failed to break to open a humanitarian corridor and lifeline for more than one million civilians trapped in the city.<\/p>\n

The network urged local authorities to address the doctors’ demands by providing essential supplies and protective measures to ensure their ability to work safely and effectively.<\/p>\n

Condemnation of International Inaction<\/h3>\n

The Sudan Doctors Network strongly condemned what it described as international and regional negligence, criticizing the failure to activate a pre-agreed humanitarian air bridge to deliver food and medicine\u2014despite widespread civilian suffering under the siege that has gripped El Fasher since May.<\/p>\n

It warned that the urgent needs in El Fasher and surrounding displacement camps cannot tolerate further delay, especially in light of rising disease outbreaks and the life-threatening scale of malnutrition facing thousands of women and children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
