Since October 2023, Israeli forces have completely destroyed Beit Lahia\u2014its buildings, water wells, farmlands, and ancient landmarks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1475\">Historically inhabited by Romans, Canaanites, and Muslims, Beit Lahia was the second-largest city in southern Palestine in terms of mosques and properties before the 1948 Nakba. Israel\u2019s pretext of establishing a \u201csecurity belt\u201d is seen as a move to seize the city\u2019s remaining natural wealth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1854\">Archaeologists highlight that Beit Lahia is home to invaluable Roman-era cemeteries and Byzantine churches, many of which have been obliterated in recent bombings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"2029\">Despite this, local farmers had once reclaimed and re-cultivated lands. But today, many consider migration after losing everything\u2014tractors, land, and even family members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2285\">The city&#8217;s last remaining hope\u2014its famed strawberry farms\u2014has also been targeted. Farmers like Atef Agha recall how Beit Lahia used to produce 17 tons of high-quality strawberries annually for export.
