She explained that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rejected a request for Khalil to be temporarily released from a detention center in Louisiana so he could travel to New York for the birth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"801\" data-end=\"965\">\u201cThis was a deliberate decision by ICE to cause pain to me, Mahmoud, and our son,\u201d Nour said in the statement, adding that her husband is being \u201cunjustly\u201d detained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"1128\">She continued: \u201cICE and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.watanserb.com\/en\/2025\/03\/11\/palestinian-student-mahmoud-khalil-sought-protection-columbia-chose-to-support-trump\/\">Trump<\/a> administration stole these precious moments from our family in an effort to silence Mahmoud\u2019s support for Palestinian freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1130\" data-end=\"1389\">Khalil is a lawful permanent resident of the United States and a graduate student. He served as a spokesperson for campus activists last year during major demonstrations at Columbia University protesting Israel\u2019s treatment of Palestinians and the war in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1695\">The federal government claims that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.watanserb.com\/en\/2025\/03\/12\/white-house-defends-arrest-of-palestinian-activist-mahmoud-khalil-ahead-of-deportation\/\">Khalil<\/a> poses a national security threat.
