Watan<\/strong><\/em>-The U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan on Thursday.<\/p>\n

This comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on February 7, sanctioning the ICC for issuing an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

At the time, Trump claimed in a statement that the ICC was \u201cunjustly and baselessly targeting the United States and its close allies, such as Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement published on its website Thursday evening, the U.S. Treasury announced the inclusion of Karim Ahmad Khan on the sanctions<\/a> list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).<\/p>\n

Karim Khan is a prominent British lawyer born in 1970. He previously served as a Queen\u2019s Counsel and is the third ICC Prosecutor, as well as the first to be elected through a secret ballot.<\/p>\n

He also served as Deputy Prosecutor of the ICC in 2007 and worked as a legal advisor at the International Criminal Tribunals for Yugoslavia and Rwanda, investigating war crimes. Additionally, he led investigations into crimes committed in Ukraine, Syria, and South Sudan.<\/p>\n

On November 21, 2024, the ICC<\/a> issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu<\/a> and former Israeli<\/a> Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.<\/p>\n

With U.S. support, Israel committed genocide in Gaza between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, resulting in approximately 160,000 Palestinian casualties, including martyrs and injured, most of whom were children and women, as well as over 14,000 missing persons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
