Watan<\/strong><\/em>-The spokesperson for Syria\u2019s military operations administration, Hassan Abdel Ghani, announced the appointment of Ahmed Al-Sharaa as the country\u2019s transitional president.<\/p>\n

Abdel Ghani stated, \u201cWe hereby declare the appointment of Commander Ahmed Al-Sharaa as the President of the Syrian Arab Republic during the transitional period. He will assume the duties of the presidency and represent Syria in international forums.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Abdel Ghani also announced the dissolution of the army and security agencies that operated under ousted President Bashar al-Assad, along with the disbanding of all armed factions involved in the offensive that led to his removal on December 8.<\/p>\n

The official news agency (SANA) quoted Abdel Ghani as saying, \u201cWe announce the dissolution of the former regime\u2019s military and the rebuilding of the Syrian army on national foundations,\u201d in addition to \u201cdismantling all security agencies of the previous regime\u2026 and all militias it created, while forming a new security institution to ensure citizens\u2019 safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cAll military factions, as well as political and civil revolutionary bodies, will be dissolved and integrated into state institutions,\u201d along with the dissolution of the Ba’ath Party.<\/p>\n

The announcement of these decisions took place at a conference in Damascus titled “The Victory of the Syrian Revolution,”<\/strong> which brought together opposition armed factions that participated alongside Hay\u2019at Tahrir al-Sham in toppling Bashar al-Assad\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

Five Key Priorities<\/strong><\/h3>\n

During the conference, Al-Sharaa outlined five main priorities for Syria in the coming period following the end of the Assad family\u2019s rule:<\/p>\n

  1. Filling the power vacuum.<\/li>\n
  2. Maintaining civil peace.<\/li>\n
  3. Establishing state institutions.<\/li>\n
  4. Building a sustainable economic infrastructure.<\/li>\n
  5. Restoring Syria\u2019s regional and international standing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    He declared, \u201cBy the grace of God, we have broken our chains, the oppressed have been freed from Assad\u2019s prisons, and Syria has shaken off the dust of humiliation and disgrace. A new dawn has risen over our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Al-Sharaa<\/a> continued, \u201cWars are usually associated with destruction and bloodshed, but Syria\u2019s victory has been marked by mercy, justice, and righteousness.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He emphasized that Syria now faces a greater responsibility than ever before: \u201cJust as we were determined to liberate Syria, we must now commit to rebuilding and developing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He further noted, \u201cVictory itself is a responsibility; the burden of leadership is heavy, and the duty of those who have prevailed is immense.\u201d<\/p>\n

    On December 8, 2024, Syrian opposition factions seized control of Damascus after taking several other cities, ending 61 years of Ba\u2019ath Party rule<\/strong> and 53 years of Assad family governance.<\/strong><\/p>\n
