Khamenei Rejects U.S. Nuclear Deal Proposal as Contrary to Iran’s National Interests

Iran’s Supreme Leader Affirms Right to Uranium Enrichment, Slams U.S. Demands as Incompatible with Sovereignty.

Watan-Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Wednesday that the U.S. proposal for reaching an agreement with Tehran over its nuclear program contradicts Iran’s national interests.

Khamenei stated: “The (nuclear) proposal put forward by the Americans is 100% contrary to our slogan ‘We are capable’,” emphasizing that Iran does not wait for a “green light” from the U.S. to make its decisions.

Uranium enrichment remains a central point of contention in the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran. In his speech, Khamenei reiterated that uranium enrichment is a fundamental element of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

On Monday, an Iranian diplomat said Tehran is likely to reject the latest U.S. proposal to resolve the decades-long nuclear dispute, describing it as “unworkable” and failing to ease Washington’s stance on uranium enrichment or consider Iran’s national interests.

Tehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and consistently denies Western accusations that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
