Defying Expectations: Israel’s Struggle in Gaza and the Resilience of Hamas

Watan-Analyses and media reports continue to suggest a significant defeat for the Israeli occupation in Gaza. Israel has been unable to achieve its objectives in the brutal war that has lasted for more than three months, as affirmed by the Israeli newspapers “Haaretz” and “Maariv.”

Israeli military analyst Amos Harel, writing for “Haaretz,” predicted the end of the Israeli war on Gaza without achieving any of its goals, while talk of Hamas’s defeat is premature, according to him.

Indirectly, Harel ridiculed the Israeli army leadership, accusing them of creating illusory victories and celebrating non-existent achievements while there are no indications that Hamas is on the verge of collapse, as claimed by the Netanyahu government.

“Haaretz” acknowledges Israeli losses and anticipates its withdrawal

The article confirms the daily fall of dozens of Israeli occupation soldiers since December 1, pointing to significant losses that may force Israeli forces into either a ceasefire or ending the war. Israel is expected to exit without any achievements due to the resilience of Palestinian resistance on the ground.

Hamas’s fierce resistance in Gaza continues, inflicting daily losses on the Israeli army in the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip. This makes the short-term achievement of the goal to dismantle the movement and its military and organizational capabilities practically impossible.

In addition, Israel is facing rapidly increasing and significant economic difficulties, compounded by the burden of mobilizing reserve soldiers and American pressures. All of these factors may collectively contribute to shortening the duration of the military operation in Gaza.

Maariv: This is how Hamas exploits the weakness of the Israeli army

At the same time, Maariv’s correspondent, Tal Lev Ram, highlighted the success of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in exploiting the weaknesses of the occupation on the ground.

Ram explained in his report that relatively open areas like Khan Yunis reveal Hamas’s crucial tools in outsmarting the occupation by remotely detonating explosive devices and booby-trapping many streets and abandoned houses in the northern Gaza Strip.

Hamas took advantage of the period of battles in the northern part of the Gaza Strip to prepare strongly for the battle of Khan Yunis. This made the occupation’s task more difficult, leading to increased military losses and making it challenging for them to achieve any control within the area.

This guerrilla warfare approach and Hamas’s experience in it give them an advantage on the ground, casting doubt on Israel’s ability to continue the battle.
