Algerian Senate Condemns French Far-Right for “Deliberate Provocations”

Algiers accuses French senators of undermining bilateral ties and interfering in Algeria’s internal affairs.

Watan-The Algerian Council of the Nation, chaired by Azouz Nasri, condemned on Tuesday what it described as “deliberate provocation” by certain parties in the French Senate, holding them—especially far-right representatives—responsible for the ongoing deterioration and “growing dysfunction” in Algerian-French relations.

In an official statement, the council said those parties “welcome terrorist elements affiliated with a group officially classified as terrorist, without regard for the consequences this may have on the present and future of bilateral relations,” describing these actions as “scandals and repeated failures.”

The council further accused the French far-right of “deliberately interfering in Algeria’s internal affairs and targeting the national unity of the nation” through behavior that “fails to distinguish right from wrong,” despite its proclaimed defense of “freedom and public justice.”

It emphasized that Algeria, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “will not tolerate any malicious or veiled interference, even if disguised in the language of human rights or liberties,” asserting that the Algerian state is strong, cohesive, and internally united.

The Senate warned that Algeria holds those responsible—those who ‘sleep with open eyes’—accountable for any further deterioration in core bilateral ties, and stressed: “The country has not and will not succumb to any attempt to undermine its sovereignty.”
