UN Chief Guterres Condemns Gaza Aid Killings, Urges Independent Investigation and Ceasefire

Antonio Guterres expresses outrage over deadly attacks on starving Palestinians seeking food aid, calling Israel's actions unacceptable and demanding unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza.

Watan-UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his “deep shock” over reports of Palestinians being killed and wounded while attempting to access food aid in Gaza, stressing that “it is unacceptable that people must risk their lives to eat.”

In a statement issued by his office on Monday morning, Guterres called for “an immediate and independent investigation into these incidents and accountability for those responsible.” He emphasized that Israel is obligated under international humanitarian law to allow and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Guterres further demanded the unrestricted and large-scale resumption of aid deliveries to address the immense humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urged that UN personnel be allowed to operate safely and with full respect for humanitarian principles.

Gaza Aid Killings Continue as UN Slams Israel’s “Deliberate Starvation Policy”

The statement comes amid ongoing attacks at aid distribution sites, where Gaza’s Ministry of Health confirmed that since May 27, at least 75 Palestinians have been killed and over 400 injured as Israeli forces opened fire on crowds desperate for food.
These events coincide with Israel’s controversial implementation of a new aid distribution plan through the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation”—an entity backed by Israel and the U.S. but rejected by the United Nations. Operating outside of international oversight, the foundation provides limited aid in Gaza’s southern regions and is widely accused of being a tool to depopulate the north.
In the latest incident, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported that Israeli forces killed three hungry civilians and injured 35 others on Monday morning near an aid distribution point in Rafah, calling it “yet another crime in a deliberate policy of starvation and systematic targeting of civilians.”

Guterres reiterated his commitment to pressing for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, as well as the unconditional release of all hostages, stating clearly:“There is no military solution to this conflict. Security for all can only come through peace.”
