Iran Confirms Israeli Assassination Attempt on President Pezeshkian During June War
Fars News reveals Israeli missile strike targeted Iran’s National Security Council meeting in Tehran aiming to assassinate top officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Watan-On Saturday, Iran’s Fars News Agency revealed details of an assassination attempt targeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the Israeli attack on Iran last month.
According to the report, the attack targeted a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, which included the heads of the three branches of government and other senior officials, in the early days of what it called the “Israeli aggression against Iran.”
The incident occurred before noon on Monday, June 15, and targeted a basement-level meeting held in a building in western Tehran.
Israel Tried to Assassinate Iran’s President During June Strike
The operation was modeled after an assassination plot against former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, utilizing six bombs or missiles aimed at entry and exit points of the facility to block escape routes and cut off air circulation.
Following the explosions, power was cut off in the targeted floor, but officials managed to escape through a pre-prepared emergency exit.
The report confirmed that several officials sustained minor injuries, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was wounded in the foot while escaping.
Fars added that the precision of the intelligence behind the strike has raised suspicions of possible internal infiltration by enemy agents.
The agency described the event as proof that “the enemy is using all possible means, including the assassination of top leaders, to strike at Iran’s national security.”

President Pezeshkian had previously accused Israel of trying to assassinate him in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, aired on July 7.
In the interview, Pezeshkian said:“They tried, yes. They moved in that direction, but they failed.”
“It wasn’t the United States behind the attempt to kill me. It was Israel. I was in a meeting; they tried to bomb the area where we were gathered.”
He confirmed, “It was Israel,” but did not specify whether the assassination attempt took place during the June war between the two countries.
