Syrian Teen Attacks Passengers with Hammer on German High-Speed Train
Four lightly injured in Bavaria ICE train incident; 20-year-old Syrian suspect arrested after passengers restrained him before police arrived.
Watan-A spokesperson for the German police announced on Thursday that the individual responsible for an attack aboard an ICE (InterCity Express) high-speed train in Lower Bavaria is a 20-year-old Syrian male.
According to the police, the attacker used a hammer as the weapon during the assault. Four passengers were reported to have suffered minor injuries.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have not ruled out any possibilities—including mental health issues or ideological factors.
The incident occurred aboard a train traveling between Ingolstadt and Regensburg, one of Germany’s busiest rail corridors. Reports from local media indicate that the attack caused panic among passengers, though no one sustained life-threatening injuries.
According to initial findings, other passengers managed to subdue the attacker before police arrived. Law enforcement officers then arrested the suspect without further incident.
German federal police have taken over the investigation, and the attacker is currently in custody pending further interrogation. Authorities have stated that there is no indication of a broader threat to public safety at this time.
The incident has sparked renewed discussions in Germany regarding security aboard public transportation, especially on high-speed and intercity trains.
