Gaza Accuses EU of Complicity in Israeli Genocide
Gaza's Government Condemns EU Inaction Amid Israel’s Ongoing War Crimes and Massacres.
Watan-The Government Media Office in Gaza on Friday accused the European Union of being complicit in the genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
This came in a statement responding to the outcome of the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Tuesday — a position later criticized by former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who said Wednesday:“Europe has decided not to punish Israel for ongoing war crimes and is allowing the genocide in Gaza to continue relentlessly.”
The Gaza Media Office expressed shock and deep anger over the EU’s official position, voiced by representatives at the recent meeting in Brussels.
It said the meeting’s conclusions highlighted the “moral and political failure” of the EU in the face of the Israeli genocide in Gaza that has now lasted over 650 days.
The office described Borrell’s remarks as “damning testimony from within the European establishment itself” on the West’s disgraceful complicity.
It also condemned the EU’s failure to activate a single accountability mechanism against Israel, despite Tel Aviv’s clear violations of the human rights clause in the EU-Israel Association Agreement.

The office stated that the EU had “crossed all red lines” as it watches 2.4 million Palestinian civilians being slaughtered, starved, and forcibly displaced without mercy.
The office accused the EU of betraying the human values it claims to uphold by merely “monitoring” the situation in Gaza. It added that the lack of any punitive measures gives Israel a “green light” to continue its massacres — with explicit European approval.
It held the European Union fully politically and morally responsible for the ongoing genocide and urged it to end its “hypocrisy, complicity, and double standards”, calling for:
-
Immediate suspension of the EU-Israel partnership agreement
-
Legal accountability for Israel’s war crimes
After the meeting, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said the Union would “closely monitor” Israel’s implementation of agreed-upon steps to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
She mentioned that potential actions against Israel were discussed and could be explored by member states in the future, stating:
“The goal is not to punish Israel, but to genuinely improve the situation in Gaza.”
Following public pressure and a Dutch proposal, the EU launched a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement on May 20, based on the requirement for compliance with human rights and international law.
Experts say a full suspension of the agreement is unlikely due to the need for unanimous consent. However, suspending parts related to free trade, scientific cooperation, culture, and political dialogue — which require only a majority — remains plausible.
Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia support suspending the agreement, while Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Hungary oppose it.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel — with U.S. support — has waged a genocidal war in Gaza, involving mass killings, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls and binding orders from the International Court of Justice.
The genocide has left over 198,000 Palestinians dead or injured — most of them women and children — with more than 10,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, famine claiming lives (including many children), and massive destruction across the Strip.
