Netanyahu Rejects Hamas Amendments to Gaza Ceasefire Proposal, Sends Delegation to Doha

Israeli PM deems Hamas's requested changes to Qatari-brokered ceasefire "unacceptable" but approves indirect talks ahead of key Trump meeting in Washington.

Watan-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Hamas is seeking “unacceptable” changes to a new ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip.

In a social media post published early Sunday by Netanyahu’s office, it read:“The changes Hamas seeks to make to the Qatari proposal were conveyed to us last night. These changes are unacceptable to Israel.”

Despite rejecting the amendments, Netanyahu authorized sending an Israeli delegation to Doha for indirect negotiations with Hamas, as announced by his office. The negotiating team is scheduled to depart on Sunday. According to media reports, Netanyahu himself is expected to head to Washington the same day.

The talks—mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States—are focused on reaching an agreement for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of hostages still held by Hamas.

Efforts to secure a temporary truce have faltered for months, but mediators recently presented a revised proposal. Reports indicate it includes:

  • A 60-day halt in hostilities in Gaza,

  • A gradual release of 10 Israeli hostages,

  • The return of bodies of deceased hostages.

In exchange, Israel would release a large number of Palestinian prisoners from its jails.

During the ceasefire period, both sides would aim to negotiate a permanent end to the war.

Hamas announced on Friday that it had delivered its response to the latest mediation proposal to Qatar and Egypt.

A Hamas official stated that clarification is needed regarding:

  • Extension of the ceasefire beyond the initial 60-day period,

  • Withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza,

  • Unrestricted access for humanitarian aid into the territory.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Israel had already agreed to the “necessary terms” to finalize the ceasefire several days ago.

Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump on Monday.
