France Pledges Recognition of Palestine While Maintaining Military Ties with Israel
Paris Condemns Civilian Deaths in Gaza Yet Continues Arms and Trade Deals with the Occupation.
Watan-In what sounded like a long-awaited historic step, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot declared, “France is determined to recognize the State of Palestine.” The announcement sparked widespread reaction, especially against the backdrop of escalating Israeli aggression in Gaza and thousands of civilian casualties.
Yet this recognition, despite its political resonance, seems unlikely to have any real impact on the ground. While Paris denounces the “killing during food distribution” and labels it a “human shame,” the French government continues its close military and commercial ties with the occupying state, without taking any concrete measures to curb the killing machine targeting Palestinians.
For weeks, humanitarian aid convoys in Gaza have been fired upon by the Israeli army, leaving hundreds dead or wounded. France confines itself to expressing “readiness to help distribute food,” without holding Tel Aviv accountable or calling for the prosecution of perpetrators or the imposition of sanctions on the occupation.

Observers describe this French approach as a “blatant contradiction”: Paris embraces the Palestinians on one hand, yet continues its arms deals with Tel Aviv on the other—a scene that exemplifies the so-called “Western two-faced policy”: humanitarian rhetoric in public, practical support for occupation allies behind the scenes.
Despite declaring support for a “Palestinian state,” France shows no willingness to push for a truly sovereign entity—instead backing a fragile, defenseless entity, stripped of any real power, simply waiting for occupation approval.
France Official Stance: Yes to Palestine—so long as Israel isn’t disturbed.
