Palestinian Prisoners Brutally Assaulted by Israeli Forces Over Iran Strike Reactions
Prisoners’ rights group accuses Israel of collective punishment in detention centers after viral footage shows brutal beatings for celebrating Iranian attack on Israel.
Al-Najjar said:
“Israeli special forces raided prisoners' rooms accompanied by police dogs and beat them severely with batons and gas after handcuffing them.”
Watan-The head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, Amjad Al-Najjar, stated that Israel’s prison authorities carried out violent assaults on Palestinian prisoners in recent days, storming their cells under the pretext that they had celebrated the Iranian missile attacks on Israel.
In a public statement, Al-Najjar said:“Israeli special forces raided prisoners’ rooms accompanied by police dogs and beat them severely with batons and gas after handcuffing them.”
A video clip circulated on Sunday documented the brutal assault by Israeli special forces on prisoners, allegedly in response to their expressions of joy over the Iranian attack, affirming that detainees are living under severe and abusive conditions.
Al-Najjar: Israel Escalates Prisoner Abuse Amid Iran War Distraction, 72 Dead in 19 Months
Al-Najjar added that Israel is exploiting global and media distraction with the ongoing war on Iran to escalate abuse against Palestinian prisoners.
He warned:“Prisoners are subjected to vicious, retaliatory assaults, and there are fears of detainees being killed or disappearing at any time.”
He confirmed that Palestinian institutions dealing with prisoners’ rights have sent urgent appeals to the United Nations and international human rights organizations regarding these escalating abuses within Israeli prisons amid the ongoing war.
Israeli prison brutality
Al-Najjar also noted:“In the past 19 months of genocidal war, 72 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons—a terrifying number. For comparison, only 9 detainees died at the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison over two decades. This highlights the extreme level of abuse in Israeli facilities.”
He called on rights organizations and world governments to take action to “halt the Israeli behavior, which is being directed by high-level political leadership in the Israeli government.”
Mass Arrests and War Crimes
According to earlier data from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, the occupation forces have carried out approximately 17,500 arrests in the West Bank, including 545 women and 1,400 children.
Israel currently holds 10,400 Palestinians in its prisons, among them 49 women (including 8 held under administrative detention without charge), 440 children, and 3,562 administrative detainees—according to the same source.
In parallel with its genocide campaign in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers have intensified attacks in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, resulting in the killing of at least 978 Palestinians, injury of nearly 7,000, and the detention of over 17,500 individuals, based on Palestinian figures.
Palestinian prisoners assaulted
Since October 7, 2023, Israel—with full U.S. support—has been conducting a genocidal war in Gaza, resulting in over 184,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, most of them women and children, as well as over 11,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a devastating famine claiming the lives of many, including children.
