Syrian Interior Ministry Announces Military Redeployment in Sweida Amid Rising Unrest

Syrian Interior Ministry announces security redeployment in Sweida amid sectarian violence; Israel demands Syrian withdrawal from southern border

Watan-The Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson announced on Friday that security forces are preparing to redeploy in the southern city of Sweida, a predominantly Druze region, in an effort to break up violent clashes between local Druze factions and Bedouin tribes.

The escalating violence has caused alarm not only domestically but also regionally. The city of Sweida has long been considered a relatively calm Druze stronghold during Syria’s years-long war. However, rising inter-communal tensions — often rooted in disputes over territory, smuggling routes, and political loyalty — have flared into armed confrontations in recent days.

Simultaneously, Israel has issued a stark warning to the Syrian government, demanding its full withdrawal from the country’s southern regions. Israeli officials reportedly expressed concern about what they termed the growing presence of “Islamist rulers” near its northern border, signaling that Tel Aviv will not allow the Syrian regime or its allies, including Iran-backed groups, to entrench militarily near the Golan Heights.

The developments come amid renewed regional instability, with Syria facing mounting pressure from multiple fronts — internal unrest, economic collapse, and increasing Israeli military scrutiny.
