Israel’s New Gamble in Gaza: Supporting Local Militias to Undermine Palestinian Resistance

As its military campaign stalls, Israel allegedly backs armed collaborators in Gaza to destabilize the resistance from within—but Hamas counters with new security units and revolutionary justice.

Watan-As Israel’s war machine has failed to eliminate the Palestinian resistance militarily, the occupation has turned to a more dangerous alternative: attempting to dismantle the internal front by supporting local collaborating gangs.

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed the existence of armed groups in Gaza and Khan Younis working in direct coordination with the occupation. Among them is a gang led by Yasser Abu Shabab in Rafah and another by Rami Helles in Gaza City. The latter works within a security apparatus affiliated with the Palestinian Authority and has been accused of carrying out operations against resistance members—though his family was quick to disown him.

In Khan Younis, the name of Yasser Hnaideq was linked to the Nasser Hospital events. However, he denied any ties with the occupation and publicly declared his support for the resistance. Local and security sources confirmed that these groups are not a real alternative to Hamas or other resistance factions, but are instead individual actors being pursued both by the security services and by society.

In response to these efforts, the resistance announced the formation of new security units such as Rad’e (Deterrent) and Sahm (Arrow), in addition to the Piercing Arrow Units, which began field operations in cooperation with tribal leaders. These measures helped restore security and discipline in the streets within weeks.

Escalating further, the resistance reactivated the revolutionary court and issued orders to pursue individuals accused of collaborating with the occupation—chief among them Yasser Abu Shabab, who is accused of espionage and forming armed cells against the resistance.
