Israeli Ex-Hostage Mia Schem Reveals Sexual Assault in Tel Aviv, Exposing Media Manipulation
After Being Used in Anti-Hamas Narratives, Mia Schem Discloses Real Assault in Israel and Files Complaint Against Fitness Trainer.
Watan-In a dramatic development that underscores the contradictions in the Israeli narrative, former hostage Mia Schem, who falsely accused Palestinian resistance fighters of raping her during the October 7 operation, has now revealed that she was actually sexually assaulted in Tel Aviv by a well-known fitness trainer.
Schem, who was released as part of a prisoner exchange deal, stated that she “could no longer remain silent” and has filed an official complaint against her assailant—who was later released due to “lack of sufficient evidence.”
What makes this case particularly striking is that Mia Schem had been one of the most prominent figures used by Hebrew media to push claims of rape by Hamas fighters, despite the absence of evidence and refutations from international organizations. At the time, her story became a tool in the campaign to incite hatred against Gaza—only for her to discover later that she was a victim not in the tunnels of Gaza, but within her own society.

In her statement, Schem said the assault occurred in her apartment after she invited the trainer over under the pretense of needing help with a personal issue. She felt disoriented after the encounter and told friends she feared she had been raped, though her memory of the incident was unclear. She later testified that the man entered her bedroom while she was changing clothes—an act he initially denied, but later confessed to.
The case quickly ignited a firestorm across Israeli platforms. Some accused Schem of having misled the public with her earlier claims, while others blamed the authorities for allowing sexual predators to evade justice.
This story reveals not just a personal tragedy, but a political scandal: how a potentially fabricated narrative was weaponized to justify war crimes in Gaza—and how a supposed victim became, inadvertently, a whistleblower against the very system that exploited her.
