Israeli Forces Demolish Two Palestinian Homes and a Shop in West Bank
Demolitions in Salmoun and al-Auja villages heighten tensions over “unlicensed construction”
Watan-On Tuesday, the Israeli army demolished two Palestinian homes and a commercial shop in two towns of the occupied West Bank, alleging “construction without permits.”
Citizen Tarzi Yahya said an Israeli force stormed the village of Salmoun, south of Qalqilya (northern West Bank), and began demolishing his sister’s house on the pretext of “building without a permit.”
He explained that the house had been built about a year ago on a 220-square-meter plot, consisting of a single floor and a roof terrace.
He noted that the house was erected on private land classified as “Area C” under the Oslo Accords signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel.
In the village of al-Auja, south of Jericho (eastern West Bank), the Bader Organization for Bedouin Rights reported that Israeli occupation forces demolished a shop and a house belonging to the al-Hreini family.
The organization stated in a press release that “the occupation forces demolished the home without any prior warning, as part of ongoing policies aimed at pressuring Palestinian residents and reducing their presence in their original areas.”
Under the 1995 Oslo II Accord between the PLO and Israel, West Bank territory is divided into three areas:
-
Area A: Full Palestinian civil and security control
-
Area B: Palestinian civil and Israeli security control
-
Area C: Full Israeli civil, administrative, and security control—comprising approximately 60% of the West Bank
