Israeli Strike on Tehran’s Evin Prison Kills 71, Including Civilians and Soldiers
Iran confirms deadly Israeli bombing on Evin Prison after ceasefire; French citizens among detainees endangered by the attack.
Watan-Iran’s judiciary announced on Sunday that the Israeli airstrike targeting Evin Prison in Tehran earlier this week killed at least 71 people, just days after the ceasefire between the two sides.
Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said, “In the attack on Evin Prison, 71 people were martyred, including administrative staff, young conscripts performing their military service, prisoners, family members visiting inmates, and residents living near the prison.”
Jahangir had previously reported that part of Evin Prison’s administrative building was damaged in the attack, resulting in deaths and injuries. The judiciary also confirmed that remaining inmates were relocated to other prisons across Tehran Province.
Evin Prison houses several foreign nationals, including two French citizens detained for three years.
Following the attack, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot wrote on social platform X: “The bombing of Evin Prison in Tehran endangered our citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris. This is unacceptable.”
