Israeli Airstrike on Gaza School Kills Dozens of Displaced Civilians, Mostly Women and Children

One of the deadliest massacres of the war, the bombing of Osama Bin Zaid School leaves bodies charred and a nation in mourning.

Watan-In one of the most horrific massacres of the war, Israeli occupation forces committed a brutal atrocity on Friday by bombing a school sheltering displaced civilians in the Al-Saftawi area, north of Gaza City. The strike resulted in a large number of deaths and injuries, most of them women and children.

The airstrike caused a massive fire inside Osama Bin Zaid School, where the bodies of victims—many of them children—were burned and charred. Terrifying scenes captured by civilians on mobile phones showed flames engulfing the injured, while residents scrambled to pull victims from the rubble amid desperate efforts to control the fire.

In one particularly heartbreaking moment, a devastated man was filmed carrying a burned infant down from the upper floor of the shelter school—an image that captures the sheer scale of the humanitarian catastrophe facing displaced families in Gaza.“O world, raise your eyes to a heart-wrenching scene in Gaza! Look at the soaked stairs, the bullet-riddled walls, the terrified eyes of children running for their lives.” — Twitter, June 27, 2025
