Iran to Hold State Funeral for Senior Commanders Killed in War with Israel

Tehran Prepares Public Farewell to Top Military Leaders and Nuclear Scientists as Ceasefire Takes Hold.

Watan-Iran will hold an official funeral on Saturday in Tehran for top military commanders and scientists who were killed during the 12-day war with Israel, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.

A ceasefire between the Islamic Republic and the Israeli entity came into effect on Tuesday.

IRNA reported:“An official funeral will be held for the military leaders and scientists martyred during the Zionist entity’s aggression, beginning at 8:00 a.m. local time (04:30 GMT) on Saturday in Tehran.”

Additionally, a separate ceremony will take place Thursday in central Iran for Hossein Salami, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who was killed on the first day of the war.

Salami was known to be close to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and was recognized for his fierce rhetoric against Israel and the West.

The war began when Israel launched a massive aerial assault on June 13, targeting nuclear facilities, scientists, and senior military leaders in an effort to cripple Iran’s nuclear development program.

According to Iran’s Ministry of Health, the war resulted in the deaths of at least 610 people and left over 4,700 injured, based solely on civilian figures. On the Israeli side, 28 people were reported killed during the conflict, according to official sources.
