Spain Urges EU to Sanction Israel Over Gaza War Crimes
Spanish Foreign Minister calls for suspension of EU-Israel partnership and arms embargo amid genocide accusations.
Watan-Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has called on the European Union to “show courage in imposing sanctions on Israel,” which he accused of continuing to commit genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to reporters on Monday ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Albares stated that he would urge his counterparts to immediately suspend the EU-Israel partnership agreement and to impose an arms embargo and individual sanctions on those responsible in Israel.
Suspending the partnership agreement, which grants Israel trade privileges, requires a qualified majority of 15 member states representing at least 65% of the EU population.
Albares emphasized that he would call on his fellow ministers at the meeting “to show courage in imposing sanctions on Israel.”
