Trump to Decide on U.S. Military Involvement in Israel-Iran War Within Two Weeks
White House Says Diplomatic Solution Still Possible, But Trump Demands Iran Halt Nuclear Ambitions.
Watan-The White House announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump will make a decision within the next two weeks on whether the United States will intervene in the ongoing Israel-Iran war.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, speaking to reporters, shared a message from President Trump:“Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks.”
Leavitt emphasized that while Trump is interested in pursuing a diplomatic solution, his top priority is preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
She added that any potential agreement with Iran must include a ban on uranium enrichment and a clear end to its nuclear weapons capabilities.
“The president is always interested in diplomacy… He is the great peacemaker. He believes in peace through strength,” Leavitt said. “If there’s a diplomatic opportunity, he’ll take it — but he’s not afraid to use force either.”
Leavitt declined to say whether Trump would seek congressional authorization for any future strikes on Iran.
Background: War Escalation Between Israel and Iran
Since the early hours of June 13, 2025, Israel has launched a massive U.S.-backed assault on Iran, targeting nuclear facilities, missile bases, and top military commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with waves of ballistic missiles and drones aimed at deep targets inside Israel — marking the most direct confrontation between the two countries to date.

According to Iran’s Ministry of Health (as of Monday), the Israeli strikes have killed 224 people and injured 1,277, mostly civilians. However, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists Organization reported a significantly higher death toll: 639 killed and over 1,329 injured as of Thursday morning, based on on-the-ground documentation.
On the Israeli side, Channel 12 and other Hebrew media outlets report that 25 Israelis have been killed and over 800 injured from Iran’s missile and drone strikes.
Rising Threat of Wider Conflict
The possibility of U.S. involvement has become increasingly likely, with Western and Israeli sources indicating that the Biden administration is weighing military options. Trump has publicly urged Iran to surrender unconditionally, even suggesting the targeting of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The growing scope of the war raises alarms across the international community about a potential regional or global escalation. With Trump’s final decision expected soon, the next two weeks could determine whether the war remains bilateral — or becomes a larger Middle East conflict involving the United States.
