Israel Expects U.S. to Join Strikes on Iran as War Escalates

Israeli officials believe Trump will enter the war to avoid appearing neutral, with Washington's military presence increasing near Iran.

Watan-Israel estimates that its ally, the United States, will join its ongoing attacks on Iran that began last Friday, according to Hebrew media.

Israel’s public broadcasting authority quoted a senior unnamed Israeli official on Tuesday saying Tel Aviv believes U.S. President Donald Trump will join the attacks on Iran. “Trump will want to be remembered as someone who took part, not someone who stood aside,” the source added.

With implicit U.S. backing, Israel launched a major offensive at dawn Friday using dozens of fighter jets. It struck nuclear facilities, missile bases, and assassinated top military commanders and nuclear scientists—resulting in 224 deaths and 1,277 injuries, according to reports.

Later that evening, Iran began its response with a series of ballistic missile and drone attacks—11 waves in total—killing 24 and injuring 592 people as of Monday morning, alongside significant material damage, per Israel’s Government Press Office.

Israel Presses for U.S. Backing to Strike Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Site

The Israeli official warned, “If the U.S. doesn’t join, we’ll only be able to cause limited damage to the Fordow nuclear facility.”
According to the broadcasting authority, “Trump’s change in tone signals he may join the assault on Iran.”
On Tuesday, Trump declared on Truth Social: “Iran must surrender unconditionally,” adding, “I have no desire to negotiate with Iran.”
Israel and the U.S. accuse Iran of seeking nuclear weapons. Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, aimed at power generation. Notably, Israel is the region’s only nuclear power and is not subject to international oversight. It has also maintained occupations in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon for decades.
Trump further stated: “We have complete control over Tehran’s skies. We know where the Supreme Leader is hiding—but we won’t take him out now.”
Channel 13 reported that Israel continues preparations for a potential strike on the Fordow facility—considered one of Iran’s most secure and vital nuclear sites.
Officials said: “Fordow is on the IDF’s target list, and Israel will decide when to attack.” However, they noted that “the quality of the strike will be lower without U.S. support.”

Fordow Strike Looms as U.S. Warships Signal Deeper Involvement

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant addressed the issue in a situation assessment, citing direct dialogue between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and Trump.

Israel Hayom emphasized the importance of Washington’s involvement. “Israel has hit most of Iran’s nuclear facilities except the most critical one—Fordow, fortified inside a mountain 90 meters underground.”

The paper noted only the U.S. possesses the B-2 stealth bomber capable of penetrating and destroying such a deeply buried site. The B-2 is a long-range, multi-role bomber capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads.

On Tuesday, Israeli National Security Council chief Tzachi Hanegbi said, “We won’t end this war without hitting Fordow.”

A senior Israeli official added, “The arrival of U.S. destroyers and warships in the region is evidence that Trump is already involved in the war.”
